“I’m the Only One”
by Heath Rogers

“And he said, ‘I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life’” (1 Kings 19:14). Sometimes we find ourselves feeling like Elijah. He was ready to quit because he felt like he was the only one serving the Lord. The Lord did not accept his resignation. He informed Elijah that he was not alone - there were still 7,000 faithful followers (v. 18).

Two things to keep in mind when we start feeling like we are the only ones left who care:

1. We are not the only ones. There are still faithful Christians who are not giving up on the Lord. They are still serving, sometimes in more difficult conditions than our own.

2. Even if we were the only ones left, that is all the more reason not to give up! When it has been necessary, God has used one person to make a difference and bring about His will (people like Noah, Abraham, Esther, etc.). God’s work must never be abandoned.
