Not only did the Lord teach and preach the gospel of the kingdom, but He also performed many miracles to confirm the validity of this gospel, His claim to be the Messiah, and the presence of His kingdom.
Jesus had not been preaching long, but people with honest hearts were able to see that He was not like other teachers. He showed genuine concern for the people. He made time for those who were cast aside. He touched the untouchable. He helped those who were beyond help. He silenced a storm and cast out an army of demons. He fed a multitude of people with a little boy’s lunch. He restored sight to the blind, mobility to the lame, and even life to the dead.
While these great miracles had immediate benefit to those who received them, they always served a greater purpose. The Lord’s miracles were evidence that His kingdom was near, His preaching was true, and He was the anticipated Messiah.
What do you believe about Jesus’ identity, His message, and His kingdom?
“And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:30-31).
