I believe there are many people who are taking the “Burger King” approach to their soul’s salvation. They believe they can have it their way.
There is a problem with that kind of attitude towards salvation. Jesus extends an invitation to all those who are weak and heavy ladened (Matt. 11:28). He offers to make us free from sin (John 8:36). However, Jesus is not inviting us to help Him save us. Jesus has already accomplished this task.
“And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him” (Heb. 5:9).
Since Jesus is the “author” of eternal salvation, that means He wrote the rules. We are in no position to negotiate our terms. We are invited to graciously accept salvation by meeting the conditions the Author has set forth, or we can refuse to our eternal peril. We can allow the Son to set us free from our sins, or we can remain in bondage.
The Lord isn’t asking how we want to be saved. He isn’t inviting our input. He isn’t offering us the privilege of proofreading His final draft before it is submitted to the courts and made official. He is freely offering salvation on His terms. The only choice we have is whether or not we will obey what He has authored or remain lost in our sins.
