Who is a Christian?
by Heath Rogers
- A Christian is a
disciple of Christ. “And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch.
So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught
a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in
Antioch” (Acts 11:26).
- A Christian is a
new creature.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have
passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians
5:17).
- A Christian is a
child of God.
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should
be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1).
- A Christian is an
heir.
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of
God, and if children, then heirs - heirs of God and joint heirs with
Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified
together” (Romans 8:16-17).
- A Christian is a
saint.
“To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in
Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the
name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours” (1 Corinthians
1:2).
- A Christian is a
priest.
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His
own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called
you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).
- A Christian is a
Servant.
“So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are
commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our
duty to do’” (Luke 17:10).
- A Christian is a
Soldier.
“You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2
Timothy 2:3).
