This week marks the half-way point of the calendar year. It is a good time for us to stop and examine ourselves and consider what use we are making of the time God has given us.
We are told: "Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is" (Eph. 5:17). Am I more knowledgeable of God's will today than I was six months ago. Am I reading my Bible every day?
Paul admonishes us: "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith" (Gal. 6:10). Am I taking advantage of every opportunity to help those in need? Am I "zealous for good works?" Do I "maintain good works, to meet urgent needs" (Titus 2:14; 3:14). Or, like the priest and the Levite, do I pass by on the other side and continue on with my own interests (Luke 10:30-32)?
The Hebrew Christians were told not to forsake the assembling of themselves together, but to "continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God" (Heb. 10:24; 13:15). Am I taking advantage of every opportunity to assembly with the saints and offer sincere worship unto God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24)?
Jesus tells us to "lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!" (John 4:35). Have I been looking for those who are lost? Have I been inviting people to attend our services? Have I been careful to live the kind of life that would give me an influence upon others?
My responsibility to God is summed up in Ecclesiastes 12:13. "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all." Have I been learning how to better walk in the fear of the Lord (Acts 9:31)? Have I been purposefully living a life that pleases God and brings glory to His name?
Time passes very quickly. Let's learn to spend it wisely.
