Rise early enough on the Lord's Day to spend some time in the presence of the Lord, before you leave for worship. Preparation should begin on Saturday night, by making proper plans and arrangements, for yourself and family, for a day of spiritual worship. There will be times when you will be rushed, certainly, but try to get in the habit of "planned preparation" for worship.
Enter the assembly with great expectations of God's presence and His blessings. You are entering a house of worship. You have come to join with brothers and sisters in Christ to worship the "King of kings" and "Lord of lords." You should be happy and rejoicing! With David, let us say, "I was glad when they said to me, Let us go into the house of the Lord" (Ps. 122:1).
Take part in the worship service. Worship is "showing reverence" for God. We do this by singing, praying, praising and listening to His Word. It is also a time for communing with our Lord and bringing our gifts unto Him. It is true that we get out of worship what we put into it. Is it any wonder that some do say, "I don't get anything out of the worship hour?" Why? One simply fails to put anything into his effort to worship God meaningfully!
Make the Lord's Day, away from the hour of worship, a time of "family togetherness." Families are torn apart as they fail to create and spend quality time together. Not only should we worship as a family, we should eat together and spend time together as a family unit! Avoid the ordinary strife, turmoil and confusion that, at times, accompany the work days of the week. Strong, loving families truly honor the Lord. Set this day apart for loving "family communion."
"And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together..." (Heb. 10:24-25).
