24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will (2 Timothy 2:24-26).
Paul makes mention of six essential keys to successful evangelism for every servant of the Lord. 1) Do not quarrel or be argumentative with those you are trying to teach. 2) Be gentle or kind (NASB) to all. Non-Christians will be far more inclined to consider what we have to say if we make it a point to treat them with kindness. 3) Obviously if we're going to convert the lost we will need to possess the ability to teach. If we don't, then we must study and equip ourselves to do so (2 Tim. 2:15; 3:16-17). 4) Personal evangelism requires a great deal of patience. We must endure slights, wrongs, rejections, and disappointments and keep pressing on in this vital work. 5) Be humble (gentle or meek) as we do our best to reach a lost soul. 6) Finally, equipped with godly attitudes and the gospel of Christ we must correct those who are in sin and error so that they may know the truth that will set them free. May God bless us all with open doors and open hearts.
