I enjoy playing "Words With Friends" on my iphone. For those who are not familiar with the game, it is like an electronic version of "Scrabble." One difference between the two games is that "Words With Friends" will not let you submit entries that are not really words. If you try, a message will come up and say, "Sorry, __________ is not an acceptable word."
A few days ago I had the letters to spell "JESUS." I couldn't resist, submitted the word, and got the reply, "Sorry, Jesus is not an acceptable word." I knew this would happen because the game will not allow you to use proper nouns (names).
However, as I looked down at the message, "Sorry, Jesus is not an acceptable word," I began to think about how perfectly that message sums up the society in which we now live. Isn't it amazing how intolerable this tolerant nation is towards Christianity? Things have changed, but not for the better.
For instance, last month I learned that my old High School no longer allows the head basketball coach (a friend of mine and brother in Christ) to say a prayer with his team before games. Why not? Because one parent complained. That story can be repeated over and over throughout what was once a "God-fearing" nation.
Jesus said, "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels" (Mark 8:38). No matter how unacceptable the name of Jesus becomes in this world, His name must never become unacceptable to us.
