"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love" (1 John 4:7-8).
All in the name of "love," people have greatly distorted and corrupted the meaning of love. Love is not self-defined; it is not "accepting me regardless of who I am or what I do".
God is love and defines love. Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Do not tell us God loves your sin. God loves sinners but he hates sin. As long as you are practicing sin you are not abiding in the love of God. "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love" (John 15:10). If you are not keeping Christ's commands you are not abiding in his love. That is what Jesus said.
The question is not whether God loves you; he does. But that has never meant that God accepts you while you sin against him. The real question is: Do you love God? That question is answered by whether or not you obey him.
God is love, and he has told you what is true love. Let us love one another God's way - not in man's selfish, self-serving perversion of love.
