In the parable of the ten virgins, Matthew 25:1-13, Christ taught the important lesson of being ready. I want to ask you if you are ready in the following areas...
Ready to hear? "So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath" (James 1:19). Our Lord has the words of life (John 6:63-68). Are we ready to hear those words, to do them and follow them in our lives?
Ready to give an answer. "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear" (1 Peter 3:15). Tomorrow, if the opportunity was afforded you to give an answer of why you believe you are saved - are you ready?
Ready to teach the gospel. "I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also" (Romans 1:14-15). If you were afforded the opportunity to share the saving gospel with a lost soul tomorrow - are you ready?
Ready to do good works. "Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work" (2 Timothy 2:21). Good works are the duty of each child of God. By doing good works we allow our light to shine that God may be glorified (Matthew 5: 16). Are you ready to do good works to the glory of God?
Ready to die. "In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, Thus says the Lord: 'Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live'" (2 Kings 20:1). The Bible clearly teaches us we will all die someday (Hebrews 9:27). "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive" (l Corinthians 15:22). If you knew that today was going to be the last day of your life - are you ready? We know not where, why, or when we will leave this old world. Yet, we know that after we leave nothing can be changed in our record. Get ready!
