I must tell you, and I think you will agree, I have never thought of a post as being swift - unless it was a load of them on a flatbed truck hurtling down the interstate.
Yet I read in Job 9:25, "Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good" (KJV). I am helped by consulting the New King James translation where "runner" is found instead of "post." Then I think of "Post Office" and I get the connection.
Truly our days pass swiftly. The days of youth when time seems to stand still are no more. Now there is not enough time to get done all the day expects. Demands on time come from every direction. Days, weeks, months, years slip by. "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Let us "walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time" (Ps. 90:12; Eph. 5:15-16). Think about it!
