Meaningful Worship
By Keith Greer
- Remember the purpose of our worship--to pay homage to our God. It is not for entertaining, or for making us feel good.
- When you worship, remember that we are all imperfect people. This attitude will help us to worship more perfectly.
- Come to worship remembering those who depend on you.
- When you sing, think about the meaning of the words. Sing truthfully, with understanding.
- Give the preacher a break. In order for a sermon to be good, it must have good listeners.
- Remember the words Jesus spoke in His sermon from the mount--"God, forgive us as we forgive others."
- When you take the Lord's supper, remember what it means. Don't allow it to become commonplace. Don't forget that He died for YOUR sins, as well as for the sins of others.
- When it is time to give something back to God, remember the many blessings He has given you.
- Look forward to time spent with your brethren. Look around to see who is missing. Let them know you missed them.
- Listen carefully to the words in the sermon. When the truth is presented, rather than just hearing, prepare to make application to your life.
- Listen carefully to the prayers offered during the service. When you give a hearty "amen," it should be because you agree.
- Pray about someone whom you know needs to respond to the gospel invitation. Consider whether that "someone" might be you.
- Be present for every service.
