1 Corinthians 6:19,20 states that we are temples of God, and we are not our own. I must take care of my health spiritually and physically. To stay spiritually healthy, I must feed my body with God's word daily, just as I feed my physical body.
1 Peter 2:1-2 tells us the kind of diet on which the young must feed: "As newbom babes desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby." With proper diet, I should be able to digest God's word.
Hebrews 5:12-14 tells me the kind of diet I must have when I am of age, and that is the meat of God's word. In order to feed myself, I must consume a steady diet of God's word. The right diet will strengthen my faith. (Romans 10:17) If I have the right diet, I will be able to teach others. (Mark 16:15; 2 Timothy 2:24) I have a responsibility to God, and to myself, to feed on God's word so that I can save myself and those about me. In order to do this, I must study and meditate on Gcd's word. Acts 20:32 tells me that God's word builds me up. It gives strength to my body and feeds my soul. Psalms 1:2 "I am to delight in the study of God's word." Ephesians 4:14 and 1 Timothy 4:16 also state that I am to study to guard myself against false teachers. 1 John 1:14 and 2 Peter 1:5-10 tell me that a study of God's word will strengthen me against temptation.
Hosea 4:6 tells me that God's people were destroyed for lack of knowledge. Through the study of God's word comes knowledge, and I pray for wisdom to use this knowledge in the right way. When I do not feed on the word of God, I become weak and die. 2 Peter 1:5 says that through study, I gain knowledge, and I am to rightly divide God's word.
2 Timothy 2:15 and I Peter 3:15 tell me I must be able to give to any man who asks an answer for the hope that lies within me. Jeremiah 10:23 tells me I should study for guidance, and I am reminded that man cannot direct his own steps. God gives me direction, and I am to follow in order to gain eternal life. I must study carefully and with reverence and Godly fear. (2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16)
1 Timothy 4:13 tells me I must give heed to reading. I must study to gain the truth as the Bereans did in Matthew 7:7. I must study with a mind to obey God. (James 1:22) Most of all, I must study because these are the words that will judge me. (Revelation 20:12; John 12:48)
Just as I daily feed and maintain my physical health, I must feed and maintain my spiritual health. I must pray daily to help improve myself. (James 5:16; Luke 18:1; 1 Corinthians 14:15) I must keep my spiritual body pure. (Philippians 4:8; James 1:27) I must keep my spiritual body holy (Hebrews 12:14; Romans 12:1-2) and assemble with the saints. (Hebrews 10:25; Acts 2:46) I can help myself by yielding to God's word (Romans 6:13-17) and by not being neglectful. (Hebrews 22:3)
I must examine myself daily. (2 Corinthians 13:51) I must walk in God's word and exercise daily. (Micah 6:8; I John 1:6-7; 1 Timothy 4:7-8) I am reminded that healthy food and bodily exercise make a healthy body. This is also true spiritually. I must be fed, and I must be properly dressed. (Ephesians 6:11, 13-17) God clothes and feeds me; thus, I should be a happy, healthy person. I must be responsible for my own soul first. Time is a very valuable thing because it can never be retrieved. I must take time for myself, for I have only today. Consider this time wisely spent!
Take Time for Yourself. God Says You're Worth It.
