What is Satan's character? By looking at the titles the Scriptures give to him, we can get a good picture of his makeup.
Enemy of Righteousness. "...O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?"{Acts 13:10} Satan is the enemy of God. He opposes all good. He attempts to frustrate God's efforts for good. He seeks to bring man's condition to the same ruined condition as his own.
Liar. "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it." {John 8:44} The originator of false statements. Satan hates truth! He lied to Eve and continues to lie to mankind!
The Prince of the Power of the Air. "In which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." {Ephesians 2:2} In the "world" over which Satan rules, he is the leader of the pack! Wherever this abode may be, he dwells as chief ruler in rebellion against God.
The Prince of this World. "I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me."{John 14:30} In this realm, men love darkness, rather than light, John 3:19. Where sin and spiritual death reign, this is Satan's domain!
The Deceiver of the Whole World. "So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."{Revelation 12:9} The whole world plunges into sin because Satan deceives them! He never tells the true cost of practicing sin!
God of This World. "Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them."{2 Corinthians 4:4} When those give their lives over to do his bidding and serving him, he becomes their god. All who practice sin pay homage to him! Does anything sound appealing to you?
