“A Gold Ring in a Pig’s Snout”
by JD Espinoza

“Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion” (Prov. 11:22).

The meaning of Proverbs 11:22 is that a physically beautiful woman who is loose and sensual by displaying her body loses the value of her beauty and defiles herself.

What does the word “discretion” mean? It means: “1. The quality of being discreet; circumspection 2. Ability or power to decide responsibly.” Discretion is an extraordinary quality, but lacking it can turn a beautiful woman into an ugly pig! Discretion is the ability to discern or distinguish what is right, befitting, or advisable for one’s conduct.

When a beautiful woman shows all of her body, she invites men to lust after her. Realize that these men go to her for sexual reasons. They want what she is displaying.

Think about it. How many men would come and go? How many of these men would leave her defiled like the ring would be polluted if it is in the pig’s snout?

In this verse, the Bible describes a beautiful gold ring. What does its owner do with it?  She puts it on a pig. That’s right smack on the snout of a pig where the ring will be tattered, worn, and muzzled up close with garbage and dung for the rest of its life. What a sad waste. So is a beautiful woman without discretion.

On the other hand, a virtuous woman who covers her body well, her beauty will shine through her face, not displayed body parts that are supposed to be discreet and covered.
