Heaven is Better
by Heath Rogers

"But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them" (Heb. 11:16). What is it that makes Heaven better than anything we can have in this world?

A Better Dwelling Place. This world contains much beauty, but Heaven is the dwelling place of the One who created this world! Heaven is described as a place of great beauty (Rev. 21:10-21).

A Better Company. Those who are lost will be cast into Hell with the devil and his angels (Matt. 25:41). Who wants to spend eternity in that place with those people? In Heaven we will be in the presence of God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, an innumerable company of angels, and the saved from all ages (Heb. 12:22-24; Rev. 21:22-24).

A Better Existence. In this world we are subject to experience suffering, pain, and death. Even the rich and powerful cannot avoid these experiences. These things do not exist in Heaven (Rev. 21:4-5). The curse of sin will be removed, and we will live the way God created man to live from the beginning (Rev. 22:1-5).

A Better Environment. In this world we must live alongside temptations and the ongoing consequences of sins. These things are not allowed in Heaven (Rev. 21:27; 22:14-15). There is no moral or spiritual pollution of any kind. Heaven is a place "in which righteousness dwells" (2 Pet. 3:13).

A Better Duration. Everything in this physical world has a beginning and an end. Heaven is eternal. There is no end to the bliss of Heaven (Rev. 22:5; Matt. 25:46).

Abraham and his family endured because they believed God had something better for them (Heb. 11:13-16). We share their faith in something better awaiting us.
