You Will Never Get Out of School
by Cecil Douthitt

It seems to me that schools start earlier almost every year. When I went to school (about a "hundred years ago") we started in September and were released in May. Those days are gone. This month most students from kindergarten through university students are back in the classroom. Some students will be unsure of themselves (kindergarteners or first graders), others will be very sure of themselves (seniors).

Thinking about returning to school caused me to think that Christians never get out of school! We never can stop learning, studying, or dwelling on God's Word.

Consider these Scriptures:

1. We are blessed when we read and study our Bibles. "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near" (Rev. 1:3).

2. We need to compare our thoughts to the Word of God. "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" (Heb. 4:12).

3. We will be judged by the word (there is a final test). "He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him - the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day" (John 12:48).

4. We benefit greatly from the Word of God in different ways.

There are many other Scriptures we could list, but we see we must always be students of God, always applying ourselves, examining, inquiring, and pondering the precious Word of God. "The heart of the righteous studies how to answer" (Prov. 15:28).

We never get out of God's school.
