The Paradoxes of the Kingdom
by Heath Rogers

A paradox is "a statement that seems contradictory, unbelievable, or absurd but that may actually be true in fact." Jesus told Pilate that His kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36). The kingdom of God does not follow the rules or restrictions of this physical world. Because of this, the Bible contains many paradoxical statements regarding the nature of the kingdom of God.

We see unseen things (2 Corinthians 4:18).

We find rest under a yoke (Matthew 11:28-30).

We reign by serving (Mark 10:42-44).

We are made great by being the least (Luke 9:48).

We are exalted by being humble (Matthew 23:12).

We become wise by being fools (1 Corinthians 1:20-21).

We are made free by becoming bondservants (Romans 6:17-18).

We conquer by surrendering (Romans 8:37).

We become strong by becoming weak (2 Corinthians 12:10).

We live by dying (John 12:24-25; 2 Corinthians 4:10-11).
