God Does Not Need a Label
By Kent Heaton

Someone has written, "God doesn't have to put His name on a label in the corner of a meadow because nobody else makes meadows." In Psalm 89, Ethan the Ezrahite wrote, "The heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints. For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the Lord? God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be held in reverence by all those around Him. O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You. You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, You still them. You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one who is slain; You have scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm. The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; the world and all its fullness, You have founded them. The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in Your name. You have a mighty arm; strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand." (Psalms 89:5-13)

Mankind has been able to accomplish some spectacular things in the generations since Eden. Pyramids that are standing today are thousands of years old. Great buildings testify to ancient man's architectural prowess. The knowledge in the medicine and science fields is ever-increasing. Space yields small secrets with each of man's adventures into its darkened world. Technology has shrunk the world to the area that a cell-phone can cover. We have accomplished remarkable things; yet, it all pales in comparison to what God created in six days. "You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and everything on it, the seas and all that is in them, and You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You." (Nehemiah 9:6)

A man cannot make a meadow or create a mountain as majestic as Everest (Matthew 6:28-29). The beauty of the Hummingbird can only have come from the hand of God. A baby's cry is borne by the hands of angels from the mouth of God. The starry host is without number; yet the Lord God has a name for each star (Isaiah 40:26). Can man create a force as powerful as the Sun or as soothing as the Moon?

We feel small before God when we consider His words to Job in Job 38-41. We need to feel small before the beauty and the power of God's creation--because we are small. The meadow bears God's mark because nothing but Jehovah God has the power to establish the divine nature. Who are we to argue with God or pretend He does not exist? How can we stand amid a world of testimony and suggest there is no God? "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork." (Psalms 19:1)

Who is like God? What can man do that would even compare to His mighty works?

"Inasmuch as there is none like You, O Lord (You are great, and Your name is great in might), Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? For this is Your rightful due. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You." (Jeremiah 10:6-7)

"Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord! Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore! From the rising of the sun to its going down the Lord's name is to be praised. The Lord is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, Who dwells on high" (Psalms 113:1-5).

What's left to say but a hearty AMEN!
