Is the Bible a "Hate Book?"
By Keith Greer

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." {2 Timothy 3:16,17}

A current movement within the halls of congress seeks to pass a bill declaring the Bible a hate book. This is not the first time our government's liberal agenda has sought to do this, and it will not be the last. Why would anyone call the Bible a hate book? Following are examples of some passages that are being used to substantiate the argument:

"For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting." {Romans 1:26-28}

"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." {Genesis 2:24}

The hate mentioned in the first passage is the declaration that homosexuality is against nature. The Genesis passage says that our Creator's eternal design for marriage involved a union between a man and a woman-not two men or two women! Added to these passages are 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and Revelation 21:8, which state that those who live in such relationships-and do not repent-cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven.

The other evening, speaking on CNN, the man running for Governor of California on the Democratic ticket commented on these subjects. He believes that the same-sex-marriage resolution will pass the next time it's on the ballot. He stated that many people are beginning to accept the fact that two people who love each other should have as much right to a civil union as those who are traditionally married. Friends, love has no bearing on the subject. Marriage, defined correctly, is between one man and one woman!

Unfortunately, some people wish to terminate all opposition to their sinful lifestyles. They classify any one who speaks out as a danger or a threat-an extremist. For this reason, they say, the Bible is a hate book; it promotes the type of thinking they want to suppress. In the past, the electorate has rebuffed such attempts to discredit the Bible. But I'm convinced, due to the direction being taken by many of our countrymen, they will one day succeed. Recently, someone asked if the passage of such a law would change the way I preach. I answered "NO." What might change is where I would be doing it. God's way is the right way and the only way that matters. Never be ashamed of the words of life.
