Sitting at the "Master's Feet"
By Keith Greer

"For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet." {Mark 7:25} In the context, this woman fell at Jesus' feet, seeking His help and healing for her demon-possessed daughter. We need to do what this woman did--fall at Jesus' feet. Allow me to share with you some blessings to be gained by sitting at the Master's feet.

Forgiveness. "Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little." {Luke 7:44-47} This woman, who was a sinner, humbled herself before Jesus. Unless we humble ourselves at the "Master's feet," our sins will not be forgiven. Why? How can we be forgiven if we are unwilling to admit we need forgiveness?

Teaching. "And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word." {Luke 10:39} Martha, Mary's sister, was busy caring for her guests. Mary chose to listen while the Master taught. About Mary's choice, Jesus said: "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." {Luke 10:41,42} Today, we need to "sit at the Master's feet" to learn from Him. How is this possible, since Jesus is no longer here personally? Quite simply, we open His book. It reveals His mind to us (1 Corinthians 2:9-13). People pay thousands of dollars to sit at the feet of great motivational speakers, investment experts, or entertainers. There's no charge for sitting at Jesus' feet. Listen, and learn about God's saving power--the gospel.

Comfort. "Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died." {John 11:32} Following the death of her brother Lazarus, Mary, because of her intense faith in Jesus and in His power, fell down at the Lord's feet. In times of despair and distress, do we "fall at Jesus' feet"? Do we cast our burdens on Him? "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." {1 Peter 5:6,7} Too often, the distressed turn to the bottle, drugs, bad relationships; or they run away. Why not bring your sorrow to the master, lay it at His feet, and allow Him to help you bear it?

Healing. "And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged Him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying." {Luke 8:41,42} When did you last fall on your knees in prayer to God in heaven? Praying is communicating with God, speaking to Him about our needs, and thanking Him for the things with which he has blessed us. Your position, whether sitting, standing, or kneeling, is not as important as your heart. Many do not pray because they do not believe there's power in prayer. This father wanted his daughter to be healed, and he knew whom to ask. Where do you turn when you need help?

Dear reader, "falling at the feet of the Master" can bring great joy, peace, and comfort into our lives. More importantly, it moves us into position to someday "fall at the Master's feet," around the throne of God. I want to be in that crowd. Don't you?
