Why I Truly Love God's Word
(26 Reasons in Alphabetical order)
By Bob Dodson

INTRODUCTION:

If we want to be saved, it is imperative that we love the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12). One who does not love the truth found in His word can be deceived to accept a lie! In order to be free from sin and enter glory, we must know the truth and follow it daily, (I John 8:31-32).

  1. AFFECTION: God's word teaches me that loving God wholeheartedly and my neighbor as myself is the greatest evidence of my respect for God's law (Matthew 22:37-38).

  2. BEAUTIFICATION: God's word, when obeyed, makes an ugly sinner a beautiful Christian (1 Peter 1:22-23).

  3. CONSIDERATION: God's word tells us how "considerate" He is of us (Romans 5:8-11), and how, in turn, we can demonstrate our consideration for Him and His people (Hebrews 10:22-25).

  4. DIRECTION: God's word gives us details on how to press onward in righteousness and upward in holiness (Ephesians 4:24-32).

  5. EDIFICATION: Only God's word can build up our resistance to evil and error and help us draw nigh to Him (James 4:6-10). God's word states that humility and integrity are pleasing to Him (Matthew 18:3-4; Psalms 26:1-3).

  6. FIXATION: God's word is His spiritual and permanent "fix" for sin (Psalms 119:11). If we fix, or "set," our minds and hearts on heaven (Colossians 3:1-2), the things of this world will not matter to us.

  7. GLORIFICATION: God's word declares that every word we say and deed we do should glorify our Maker (1 Corinthians 10:31-33) and that having His authority is imperative (Colossians 3:17).

  8. HESITATION: God's word kindly warns us not to be hesitant in doing good, or we sin (James 4:17). Rather, let us be steadfast and abound in the work of the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58; Ephesians 2:8-10).

  9. INSTRUCTION: God's word builds us up from the "inside out" (Romans 7:22), and this inspired Telegram of Truth clearly states His righteous instructions (II Timothy 3:16-17). If our inner structures (hearts) are solid and strong (Philippians 4:8), our outer man (bodies) will be correctly occupied (Romans 12:1-2).

  10. JURISDICTION: God's word indicates that He has complete authority over man in judgment (2 Corinthians 5:10-11). Following Christ and the apostolic teaching is jurisprudent (Acts 2:42); whereas, following Satan is certain eternal tragedy (John 8:44; Revelation 21:8).

  11. KEEPING: (coined word) God's word promises that if we "keep His commandments," we can, by His grace and mercy, enter the pearly gates (Revelation 22:14). Keeping His commands with patience demonstrates our true love for God (John 14:15). How can anyone ever convince God of their love for Him if they are unwilling to obey what He says?

  12. LAMENTATION: God's word surely states that we should "mourn" over our sins and the sins of others and that all people must repent (Matthew 5:1-4; Acts 17:30-31). Real tears shed over real sin, should touch our heartstrings and produce changes for good (2 Corinthians 7:10-11). Not sorrow we "got caught" but sorrow for the pain we have caused God.

  13. MANIFESTATION: God's word demonstrates His tender compassion for all people (2 Peter 3:9). By giving His word of truth, He made possible salvation for all men (1 Timothy 2:3-4).

  14. NOTIFICATION: God's word instills heavenly wisdom into our hearts as we study and pray (James 3:13-18; James 5:16). God's word says we should note that "many will be lost and few will be saved" (Matthew 7:13-14). Let us take note and walk the narrow way that leads to eternal life! This is the way of obedience (Hebrews 5:8-9).

  15. OPERATION: God's word is the means by which He plants His teaching in our hearts (James 1:21-25). God's operation on our hearts in baptism is when He forgives us (Colossians 2:12). This operation removes the deadly leprosy of sin. The only divine intervention God can work on men is done through His word.

  16. PRESENTATION: God's word is His constitution, which He presents for man to follow. If we follow His "rules," we will give our bodies and minds in loving service as gifts to God (Romans 12:1-2) and advertise His Love and Grace.

  17. QUESTION: God's word so aptly states that if we lovingly and joyfully serve the Lord, we have no need to question His promises of salvation (Titus 1:12; Romans 6:23). God's word contains heaven's answer to every earthly question we encounter about salvation (1 Peter 3:15; 2 Peter 1:3-4).

  18. RECONCILIATION: God's word says that in sin, man is at war with God (John 8:21), but that His Son, Jesus Christ, is the means of reconciling man to God (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). When sinners obey the gospel (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38), Christ becomes their peace with God, and man is again God's friend (Ephesians 2:13-18). No man can ever enter heaven without first being reconciled back to Him.

  19. SALVATION: God's word is the manuscript that provides the terms for His acceptance of man (Romans 1:16-17). God's word sanctifies those who love and obey His glorious truth (John 17:17-21). In detail, God's word also declares who will not be saved (Galatians 5:19-21).

  20. TEMPTATION: God's word warns us that yielding to temptation to commit evil is an eternal mistake (James 1:12-15). God's law states that for a child of God, prayer is essential to avoiding sin (Matthew 26:41). He promises eternal life to those who endure and remain faithful (James 1:12).

  21. USURPATION: God's word is perfect and complete and right, and when man, by writing his own laws, infringes on God's territory, his worship is vain (Matthew 15:8-9). Man usurps God's word with traditions and philosophies (Colossians 2:8), for man's wisdom is earthly, sensual, and devilish (James 3:16).

  22. VEXATION: God's word tells man what is worthwhile and what it not (Ecclesiastes 2:1-15; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14). Satan's lies and sinful lifestyles only "vex" the soul with sin and evil consequences. God's word is the medicine needed to heal men's sin-sick souls and lives (Revelation 22:17; Matthew 4:4).

  23. WORTH: God's word clearly states that He is worthy of all our love and trust (Revelation 5:9-10). His word shouts out man's worth to God (Matthew 16:24-26). He also says in His word that heaven will be worth all our commitment and sacrifice (1 Peter 1:3-9). One second in Hell will not be worth a lifetime of sensual, sinful pleasure (Mark 9:43-48; Hebrews 11:24-26).

  24. 'X'PLANATION: (Explanation) God's word carefully explains that He created us, and we are altogether responsible to Him for our conduct while here (Genesis 1:26-27; John 12:48-50). God's word explains the necessity of joining our faith with works, if we desire salvation (James 2:17-26). God's word very carefully explains that we are free to choose whether to serve Him or the Devil (Romans 6:16-18).

  25. YIELDING: In clear terms, God's word states that yielding to Him and His law throughout our lives is good for us (Matthew 6:33; Romans 8:1-2). In yielding, we do so with joy and love (Philippians 4:4-6; Galatians 5:6). Man's failure to yield the right of way to God will result in the most terrible fatality (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).

  26. ZEAL: God's word marries our energetic efforts with the truth so as to influence others to also love and serve Him (Titus 2:11-16). If we zealously let our lights shine, our influence will weigh heavily on others (Matthew 5:13-16).

Brother Bob is a very good friend, and a wonderful gospel preacher with a deep and abiding love for the truth of God's word. Sadly, too many preachers fail in this area of their work. When a preacher avoids subjects because they offend some, there are grave corrections to be made. Or if preachers avoid certain subjects because they cause some listeners to feel uncomfortable--they have grown ashamed of God's truth! Today, more than ever, we need love for truth. What say ye?
