Moses and John Knew the Same Prophet!
By Keith Greer

Moses led Israel out of Egypt and across the Red Sea. On Mount Sinai, God gave him a law, which he gave to Israel. When, following 40 years of wilderness wandering, Moses gave this same law to the second generation, he made a bold prediction.

"The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.' And the LORD said to me: 'What they have spoken is good. I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.'" (Deuteronomy 18:15-19)

During the time of the apostle John, Jesus spoke to those who did not know who He was. John recorded His words for us to consider. "Do you think that I shall accuse you to the father; there is one who accuses you--Moses, in whom you trust. For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?" (John 5:45-47) Both Moses and John spoke to their audiences about the necessity of hearing this particular prophet. Why would this be? Because God sent this prophet to be His spokesperson to the people. Had the Jews believed Moses' writings, they would have accepted Christ, about whom Moses wrote. Jesus was one of their own, from the tribe of Judah. But that made no difference to them. "He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him." (John 1:11) Moses' writings concerning Jesus did not matter to the Jews. Jesus Christ was not what they expected or wanted, so they rejected Him and everything for which He stood.

Again, we see that Moses and John, though they lived centuries apart, gave the same details, about the same person? Moses lived under the law when God first gave it. John lived under that same law, which during his lifetime, ended. They both preached about Jesus.

This all harmonizes with what Luke wrote: "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me." (Luke 24:44) When we put this statement along side all the other evidence offered as proof that Jesus was the divine Son of God, how could we reach any other conclusion?
