Bible Ought's
By Keith Greer

"And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved and very angry, because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, a thing which ought not to be done." {Genesis 34:7} The Bible does discuss some ought and ought not for God's people. In this article we will examine some Bible "ought's."

OBEY GOD. "But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: We ought to obey God rather than men." {Acts 5:29} Peter and John were instructed to not teach in the name of Christ. Peter responded by telling the council they must obey God first. For us to please God we must obey Him! "And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him." {Hebrews 5:9}

ALWAYS PRAY. "Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart." {Luke 18:1} Paul told the church in Thessalonica to "Pray without ceasing," {1 Thessalonians 5:17} Prayer needs to be a daily part of our lives. It gives us peace and strength in our spiritual lives.

MEN OUGHT TO LOVE WIVES. "So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself." {Ephesians 5:28} God demands a husband to love his wife as himself. To do this he must seek her best in all things which he does. One cannot truly love God if they don't love their wife as God has commanded.

OUGHT TO GIVE MORE EARNEST HEED. "Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away." {Hebrews 2:1} We all need to be strict in listening to God's word. One needs to always be examining their lives by God's standard. 2 Corinthians 13:5 God's word is able to build us up and give us an inheritance. Acts 20:32

OUGHT TO LOVE ANOTHER. "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." {1 John 4:11} God loved the world to send His Son. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." {John 3:16}

"... In sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart." {1 Peter 1:22} Love for brethren is imperative for any Christian. Dear reader, are you doing what you "ought" to do?
