There Is A Generation
By Keith Greer

"One generation passes away, and another generation comes..."{Ecclesiastes 1:4} Let us consider the thought "there is a generation..."

There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. Proverbs 30:11. This is a sad commentary on any generation.

Under the Old Law such children were taken out and stoned! In the New Testament the punishment is not that quickly rendered. Ephesians 6:1-3 Children are to obey their parents, love them and treat with respect. They may not always be right, you may not always understand the whys, still they are your parents. Those who fail to do so will answer to the Lord in the day of judgment.

There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet not washed from their filthiness. Proverbs 30:12

Pride and self-righteousness has led many a good man to sure destruction. Jeremiah told us "we cannot direct our own steps, Jeremiah 10:13. Many ways look right to men-- but in the end are ways of death! Proverbs 14:12; 16:25

Some in the 60's and 70's thought they could "go their own way and do their own thing." This so-called freedom led to much immorality and heartaches for that generation. See all things come at a price!

There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes and their eyelids are lifted up. Proverbs 30:13 Arrogance goes hand in hand with pride. One of the things which the Lord's hates-- the proud look, Proverbs 6:19.

James tells us that God will resist the proud but give grace to the humble, James 4:4-6. Humility is a necessary characteristic that each child of God must develop and refine. Anyone who cannot look up to God is not fit for the kingdom of heaven!

There is a chosen generation. "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy."{1 Peter 2:9,10}

These are elect of God, 1 Peter 1:2. They have a living hope, 1 Peter 1:3,4. This group has received mercy and grace, 1 Peter 2;10. These have purified their souls by their obedience to truth, 1 Peter 1:22.
