Why Did You Never Mention Him To Me?
By Keith Greer

What do we discuss with our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family? Sports, family, the weather, children, or maybe even politics. Is there anything wrong with these subjects? Nothing! Yet, the most important things we need to discuss with these folks is the saving gospel of Jesus Christ!

Why don't we discuss the Bible more with those who need it the most? Could it be that we are ashamed of the message of truth?

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek." {Romans 1:16}

What happened in Nineveh when Jonah preached the message of repentance to the city? "Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it." {Jonah 3:10}

What were the results when Peter preached the gospel message on Pentecost? "Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them." {Acts 2:41}

Philip spoke the true meaning of Isaiah 53 to the eunuch. A one on one study. The results? "Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing." {Acts 8:39}

Peter was sent to the first Gentiles with the message of life. What did they do when they heard it? "And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days." {Acts 10:48} Now the door of acceptance had been open to the Gentiles just as it was to the Jews.

Do you see a pattern forming in these examples? Two are very clear to me. One, that the preaching of truth gets some kind of a result. Second, it comes down to a personal choice of the hearer.

What is my point? How can there be a harvest if the seed is not first planted into the good soil? Truth must be brought into contact with the lost soul! Unless the sinner hears the message of life they cannot obey it!

"I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase." {1 Corinthians 3:6} Let us allow God to worry about the numbers and concern ourselves with the role we have in the process.

What words are more important for the sinner to hear than the words of life? Do you tell them or even care?
